Materials 1 gives a first insights in material science applied to engineering problems. The aim is to analyze the macroscopic behavior of materials in relation with their microstructure and atomic structure. Further on, the studied properties are used to establish different criteria for material selection in different applications.

1--Rigid Motions and Homogeneous Transformations (introduction to robotics)
2-Computational design Project (Airfoil blade design) (mathematical modeling and programming using matlab software
3-Gearing modeling (intermediate-advanced level)

Provide the students with the knowledge to:
1 - Understand the fundamentals of stress/strain analysis.
2 - Recognize the relationships between commonly used material properties, and recall their value for typical materials used in mechanical engineering structures
3 - Critically evaluate and judge the validity of a method of analysis in a solid mechanics problem in terms of its assumptions and simplifications
|
