The Finite Element Method course represents an introduction to the Finite Element Method (FEM). It introduces the basic procedures to carry out a Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Starting from the basic principles and the mathematical representation of the FEM, students will be familiarized with a FEM-based commercial software (e.g. Ansys) in order to perform numerical simulations and solve problems in a wide range of applications, such as structural analysis and vibration.

The student should be able to:
1 - Describe the microstructures and phases that will occur in material alloys in general, and in steels and Aluminium alloys in particular
2 - Predict how microstructure will be affected by alloy composition and thermo-mechanical treatment"

The students will work on FEM-based commercial software (e.g. Ansys) in order to perform numerical simulations and solve problems in a wide range of applications, such as structural analysis and vibration. |
