General objectives
This course introduces the main issues of Sustainable Development (SD) with a specific focus on the role of future engineers and the way of thinking the future responsibilities of individuals and of industry.
Students must be familiarized with the popular issues raised by SD. They must develop their capacity to:
- Discuss and debate about the current SD issues
- Adopt a critical viewpoint on these issues
- Develop a critical presentation on a debating topic: perform some personal research (scientific bibliography); popularization of the subject; and oral presentation.

- About the background of the students
- About the role of engineers in the future, in the context of industry evolution.
Lecturese 1: Introduction to Sustainable Development:
- Historical background
- The 12 SD objectives of the United Nations
- Main issues raised from technology development and current trends
Choice of topics and constitution of pairs.
