Learning Outcomes |

At the end of this module, students should be able to: - Analyze structural systems to determine stresses, strains and stress concentration for axial, torsional and bending loads - Build shear and moment diagrams for simple structures in 2 dimensions. - Estimate the influence of internal forces on the deformation and analyze statically undeterminate systems - Utilize a numerical simulation software for stress analysis (Ansys Structural) |
Content |
---|
- Introduction: review of Statics and Solid Mechanics (stress and strain) - Axial loads: stress concentrations, stresses due to temperature change, solutions of hyperstatic systems - Torsional loads: torsion of shafts due to applied torques, design of transmission shafts, stress concentrations - Analysis of beams under later loads: shear and moment diagrams - Pure bending of beams: normal stresses, properties of cross-sections - Deflection of beams: elastic curve equation, resolution of hyperstatic systems |
