Learning Outcomes
1. To be able both to understand and to handle the theory of energy efficiency concerning electromechanical devices. To be able to decompose an electromechanical device in order to apply the thermal network method. To be able to make a basic numerical simulation based on CFD method in order to study both convective and radiative thermal exchange.
2. Group project aimed at developing skills that are important whenever energy efficiency must be improved in electromechanical devices.
Content
1. This course comprises a number of lecture classes and lab work which cover the following points:
- Why should we be concerned with energy efficiency?
- What is energy efficiency?
- Measuring energy efficiency
- Global and local methods
2. This project is structured around various sessions of group work with access to the necessary computer resources. Students have the possibility to meet with a professor at different steps of the project in order to verify that their project is on the right tracks.
Pre-requisites / co-requisites
Basic knowledge on thermal exchange and fluid dynamics.
